Itinerary · 3–4 days
A route that starts along the East Cape coast, continues through the marine life of Cabo Pulmo, heads on to the beaches and Sea of Cortez vibe of La Ventana, and ends among surf, town and Pacific coast in Todos Santos.
Day-by-day itinerary
Flexible route. We recommend doing it in 4 days. In 3 days, day 3 ends with the drive back to Los Cabos; in 4, that's the day you head to the Pacific and sleep near the beach.
Approx. 55–65 km · Night at La Fortuna / ALAIA
Night at La Ventana / El Sargento
Night at El Pescadero / Cerritos (4-day version)
Final stop: San José del Cabo / KAVAN
Day 1
The adventure starts at KAVAN in San José del Cabo, then heads out to the East Cape. This first day is ideal for driving the coast, enjoying the beach and starting the trip with a night by the sea.
First stop
La Fortuna is a great first stop to spend the day, enjoy the beach and start getting to know this part of the East Cape.
If you're interested, you can also drive over to Nine Palms to see the area and then head back to La Fortuna for the afternoon.
For the first night, La Fortuna is an excellent choice. You can camp by the sea or, if you'd rather have facilities, ALAIA Surf Lodge is right nearby, an option with services for the night.
East Cape
Day 2
Leave La Fortuna early and continue to Cabo Pulmo. On the way you can make a short stop at Los Frailes to see the beach before moving on.
In Cabo Pulmo, the main activity is discovering its marine life. You can take a snorkeling or diving tour. If you want to add another stop during the day, visit Playa El Arbolito, where you can rent snorkel gear and walk to Bahía Chopitos.
Then continue to La Ribera, where you can refuel and buy water, ice or supplies before heading on to La Ventana. The idea is to reach La Ventana at the end of the day, settle in and rest.
Key stop
Then continue to La Ribera, where you can refuel and buy water, ice or supplies before heading on to La Ventana.
We recommend spending the night in La Ventana or El Sargento. The idea is to arrive at the end of the day, settle in and rest.
One option is the Ejido campground of La Ventana and El Sargento.
Day 3
Make the most of the morning in La Ventana. During wind season you can take a kitesurfing, windsurfing or wing foil lesson, walk the beach or visit El Sargento.
If you're doing the route in 3 days, after the morning in La Ventana continue to Todos Santos, explore downtown, its galleries, shops and restaurants, and then head back to Los Cabos to return the vehicle.
If you're doing it in 4 days, enjoy La Ventana at a slower pace and then drive to Todos Santos to explore the town and have lunch before continuing to El Pescadero / Cerritos, where you'll spend the night.
In the 4-day version, you can spend the night in El Pescadero / Cerritos.
Some options are Surf Point Village RV Park and Cerritos Beach Campground.
La Ventana
Flexible route. If you're doing the route in 3 days, this day ends with the drive back to Los Cabos. If you're doing it in 4, this is the day to move to the Pacific and sleep near the beach.
Day 4
Spend the last day getting to know this part of the Pacific coast at a slower pace.
Then start the drive back to San José del Cabo to return the vehicle at KAVAN.
If you still have time, make one last stop to walk around downtown San José del Cabo before the end of the trip.
In the morning
Enjoy the morning at Cerritos Beach. You can walk the beach, spend time by the sea or surf. There are also surf schools and gear rentals if you'd like to take a lesson.
Before heading back
You can go back to Todos Santos to explore downtown at a slower pace, visit galleries and shops or have lunch before continuing to Punta Lobos.
At Punta Lobos you can see the beach and, if you'd like to hike, walk the trails in the area for views of the Pacific.
